Early Years
George Herbert Walker Bush was born on June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts. Barbara Pierce was born on June 8, 1925, in New York City. The two met in 1941 at a Christmas dance in Greenwich, Connecticut. They were both 17 years old.

Despite Barbara's initial reluctance, George was persistent. He wrote her letters every day, and he visited her at Smith College as often as he could.
