A Life of Service

Ryan Zinke was born on January 1, 1976, in Whitefish, Montana. He was the son of a military family, and he grew up with a strong sense of patriotism and service. Zinke attended the University of Montana, where he was a member of the ROTC program. After graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy.

The Raid on Tarnak Farms

On August 6, 2011, Zinke was part of a team of SEALs that was tasked with rescuing Dr. Dilip Joseph and four other hostages from a compound in Afghanistan. The compound was heavily fortified, and the SEALs knew that they would face a difficult fight.

The SEALs entered the compound under the cover of darkness. They quickly encountered enemy fire, and a fierce firefight ensued. Zinke was shot in the chest during the fighting, but he continued to fight until he was killed.

Zinke's sacrifice allowed his teammates to complete the mission and rescue the hostages. He was a true hero, and his name will forever be etched in the annals of military history.

A Legacy of Courage
